Unique Stay: Oasis Samay Collections

Hey adventurers! I love recommending the gear and stays that I'm stoked about and use on the regular. As such, this post contains affiliate links to some of the products I love, and I'll receive commission upon any purchases made through those links at no expense to you.

You know how much I love the outdoors, and when I saw how the Oasis was built with the environment in mind, I knew I had to check this beaut out for myself.

I mean, this is literally as close to nature as you can get without compromising comfort. Pretty ideal. I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend my last night of a month-long Ecuador trip!

Getting There

The Oasis is just one unique stay on Samay Collections’ property, which is just about 15 minutes from the Mariscal Sucre Quito International Airport in the small town of Tababela. Convenient, right? I thought so.

Head south on Conector Alpachaca taking the first exit at the roundabout on to 24 de Septiembre. Turn left toward Justo Coello and continue for about 700’. BAM. You’re there. Well, almost.

Thinking about visiting Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest? Here’s everything you need to know about Cuyabeno.

The host walked us down to the Oasis, and I’m SO glad she did because I 1000% would’ve gotten lost. The trail is a tiny little path that starts at the swings (yes, there are clifftop swings to check out too!), and meanders down the side of the cliff. Be SUPER careful. It’s steep, has a couple sets of stairs (basically ladders), and it can get very slippery when wet–you do NOT want to fall.

You’ll eventually see a wooden gate: you’re home! You’ll notice the trail continues down to the left, which is the route to the river. We felt more like relaxing than hiking (that trail has some serious elevation) so we stuck to our not-so-humble abode.

The Space

The Oasis is a one-bedroom glass home (sleeps 2) with a super comfortable king size bed. There’s a mini fridge, a coffee maker, hot water kettle, drinking water, and tea for guests to enjoy. I loved the two swinging chairs and the big sliding glass doors that led to a net over the cliff. Made my knees a little weak, but loved it regardless. There’s wifi too!

The bathroom is accessible through a sliding door behind the headboard and is outside and literally dug into the side of the cliff–it’s pretty sweet. The shower comes out of a massive bamboo stock, and shampoo is provided, which was nice!

On the deck, you have a table and chairs, a loveseat, a barbecue and utensils, and–my favorite place to hang–the tiled hot tub. Heavennnn. Flip on the cafe lights and order a bottle of wine to get steamy. It’s romantic as all get out.

The Property: Samay Collections

You’ll walk by a massive tent on your way down to the Oasis, which is a common area complete with a TV, seating, and a pool table. There’s also beautiful gardens to stroll, an on-site restaurant (I recommend opting in for the hand-delivered breakfast), a terrace, and more.

Picnic breakfast delivered to our cliffside unique stay.

There are also 10 different unique stays you can rent on the property (and all have hot tubs):

  • The Amazon Room: The largest of the collection features lianas from the Amazon rainforest. You enter through a long tunnel to find three levels, one that overlooks the outdoor garden and pond complete with mosaics. Pretty incredible.

  • Bamboo: A two-story bamboo hut inspired by the design and architecture of Bali, Indonesia

  • Deluxe Glamping: A glamping-style “tent,” which is actually more like a wood cabin with a glass wall. The word “tent” doesn’t do this unique stay justice!

  • Tree House: A tiny a-frame perched on a deck high in the trees.

  • Sky View: A tiny glass hut on a deck in the trees with views of the canyon and river below.

  • River View: Another tiny glass hut on a deck overlooking the river.

  • Open Sky: A glass pyramid in a eucalyptus forest.

  • Bubble: A glass dome.

  • Pyramid: A two-story pyramid-shaped tent.
